New Shoco Nesting Site
There is a new shoco (Burrowing owl, Athene cunicularia arubensis) nesting location at the Nature Preserve. This owl is endemic to Aruba, found nowhere else on earth. It is estimated that only 200 pairs remain on the island.
Hopefully you are lucky enough to spot the shoco owls. Our maintenance teams were able to see new owls nesting in the ground site. The area has been closed off and marked to keep visitors at a distance.
On the right a shoco owl observing us from a tree.
Do you have pictures of the shoco owls? Share them on our Facebook group and let’s enjoy the return of this Aruban icon to nature.
