Improving soil quality

Developing and maintaining the Bututi and Tara GMC Nature Preserve requires regular care. We use organic soil amendments to improve the soil quality, such as mulch and natural nutrients.

To create a nature preserve based on sustainability and circular practices we collect donkey manure from the nearby Aruba Donkey Sanctuary. Donkey manure is a natural fertilizer which provides essential nutrients and minerals to the soil. Addition of the cured manure improves soil structure, water retention capacity, develops soil microbial and fungal diversity and aides in the long term development of an organic soil layer.

Unlike synthetic fertilizers, they release nutrients gradually, reducing the risk of over-fertilizing and preventing soil degradation
